A Collective Altar: Honoring Our Sense of Place
Workshop with Francesca Borgatta
We invite you to participate in a unique and heartfelt community art project: the construction of a collective altar. This altar will serve as a poignant and evolving testament to our interconnectedness with specific spaces, our cherished homes, and the vibrant community we share, both past and present.
Building Together: we encourage you to bring repurposed materials that can be found in your environment to build the foundation of the altar. These might include reclaimed wood, discarded fabrics, repurposed metal, broken ceramics, or any other items that can be given new life and imbue the altar with the shared energy of our community.
Personal Tributes and Shared Stories: The altar will be enriched by the addition of figures and mementos serving as individual expressions of honor and remembrance to a place. We warmly invite you to bring contributions of your own to place within the altar. These could be photographs, small trinkets, found objects, handwritten notes, etc. No matter how small, they contribute to the rich tapestry of shared stories and collective memory.
A Living Exhibit: This altar will be a dynamic and evolving installation, remaining displayed in the front of the gallery. People are invited to freely add their own meaningful items to the altar through the duration of the "Sense of Place" exhibit . This ongoing contribution will transform the altar into a living, breathing testament to our bond with this place and with each other.
